The fix was to specify a lower metric number for NetExtender and a higher metric number for both the WiFi, and Ethernet adapter. You'll need to do this for both IPv4 and IPv6. What this does is ensures that your computer uses NetExtender first (including DNS) when needed. This might change depending on how/if you have split tunneling enabled.
