He gave a great overview about what was going to be on the exam and his notes and practice exams were very helpful. Because of the class, there were no surprises at all about what was going to be on the test, I was prepared for everything. Will you e-mail me the notes. |

in Los Angeles, California 84 months ago | floridaf in Seattle, Washington said: There is a really good book....it's only six chapters, paperback and I think $48. On Amazon it's called Examination Review for Ultrasound 'Sonographic Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) it's purple purple with a thick blue line in the middle and has a vessel with red & blue color flow by Steven M. Penny, Traci B. Fox, Cathy Herring Godwin. Itls Lippincott Williams & Wilkins that's the only book you need all the other ones have toooooooo much info and this book lets you understand because it's easy reading and it just flows....get it and you will pass the SPI. Is this the only book you used to take the SPI exam? |

in San Diego, California 83 months ago | check out the new physics exam on the ARDMS site. You have to do a simulation/hands on question. They give you a static picture with a question about it down below, and then you have to fix it. There are all the controls for transducer, TGC's, etc.... but it will be tough for people who haven't had much time on a real machine. Good luck to everyone!! |

Most of the questions can be answered just by knowing how to adjust your machine. Additionally, ESP's physics course is great to learn from. The work book, not textbook, is all you need to pass. |
in Murrieta, California 82 months ago | I'm not near to what all of you have done on your prepartion to become a sonographer. I've reading and I just have a question. If you don't mind could you please let me know. I'm condsidering to go to school for that but I'm just doing some research. Do you have take the SIP before you sit for ARDMS? Thanks, |

I've reading and I just have a question. If you don't mind could you please let me know. I'm condsidering to go to school for that but I'm just doing some research. Do you have take the SIP before you sit for ARDMS? ARDMS is the entity which gives a sonographer his/her credentials. Sort of like how the American Medical Association gives a doctor the right to have MD behind his or her name. In order to be 'registered' one must take the SPI AND a specialty exam (abdomen, ob/gyn, echocardiography, vascular and the like) and pass them both. You don't have to take the SPI prior to taking a specialty, but you will not be registered UNTIL you complete (pass) both the SPI and a specialty. I hope this answers your question. |

Do you have take the SIP before you sit for ARDMS? ARDMS has 2 tests to get your specifc credential, the SPI (physics)and your specialty (like echo or abdominal). You can take SPI after you have taken a ultrasound physics course (like ESP or Pegesus lectures)as they give you a certificate that complies with the ARDMS's requirements. Most 2 year programs incorporate ultrasound physics into their program (or atleast should) as it is part of the education. If you take the ESP physics course, you can sit for the SPI test anytime. |

in Houston, Texas 82 months ago | Hello, I'am currently studying for the SPI exam and I have until the end of Nov to take the exam. I'am studying from the SPI Exam Review for Ultrasound by (Penny, Fox, and Godwin) 2011 edition, and Davies SPI Q&A review. Is there anyone who has recently took the new SPI with the new SIC (Semi Interactive Console) questions? How was it, and is there any additional material I need to study? I was informed that now the new SPI exam has 110 questions instead of 120 and only about 10% of the exam is the new SIC questions. For anyone, who has passed the SPI exam recently and can give me some good advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your help in advanced. |
